Abstract:
The test automation market is undergoing a transition from being a sideliner to becoming the definer of testing success. Today, a team which employs test automation effectively is more likely to succeed than one does not – it is no longer a luxury but a necessity.

We look at several key dimensions to understand key trends in several areas and their implications for us:

• Team and organization (what roles are emerging, how do they fit into the test organization)
• Testing trends affecting the tool market (new techniques require need new tools – test design, workflow, integration testing and so on)
• Technology trends (rise of open source, SoA and so on)

This analysis is aimed at looking at the newly emerging success criteria for tools and we will then scan the tool market to see how tools are evolving to meet the challenges.
